Teaming Up With The Brooklyn Community Foundation
Here at The JAR Group we love feeling warm and fuzzy. And nothing does the trick like helping out local homeless children and their families around the holidays. That’s why we’ve teamed up with our next-door neighbors at the Brooklyn Community Foundation (@DoGoodBklyn). This winter they launched a Caring Neighbors Campaign, a fundraiser meant to provide help and hope to homeless families by giving about 600 children a “Caring Neighbor Kit” filled with books and toys. The neighborly spirit runs deep in DUMBO, and we wanted to help! To assist the foundation with their efforts, The JAR Group was happy to be able to donate $1500 worth of toys from Rosie Hippo, an earth-friendly toy company that makes handcrafted, organic toys.

There has been outpouring of generosity from local businesses in support of this effort. Last week, we went next door to help Brooklyn Community Foundation assemble the gift bags, and found piles and piles of books and toys for children of all different age groups. The foundation has gotten $60,000 worth of toys for children from local companies and around $6,000 in monetary donations. The gift bags were distributed yesterday at a holiday party hosted by campaign-partner CAMBA, a Brooklyn non-profit agency that provides services to connect people with charitable opportunities to enhance their quality of life.
Though the toy and book drive has ended, monetary donations are still needed to meet the Caring Neighbors Campaign’s goals. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, gifts up to $250 will be matched dollar for dollar. If you are interested in making a contribution to this effort, you can donate online at www.brooklyncommunityfoundation.org/donate, or by mail to 45 Main St., Suite 409, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11201.
