In Gmail We Trust

For those of you who were stuck with nothing to do because you couldn’t access Gmail this afternoon, I thought I would provide some suggestions. Full disclosure: the following list is heavily indebted to this TechCrunch article.

1. Google “Gmail down today” and read about it
2. Write your own blog post about Gmail being down
3. Tweet about Gmail being down
4. Talk about Gmail being down over IM (Gchat isn’t down)
5. Skip a conference call because you don’t have access to the call-in number (thanks, Technologizer)
6. Set up a traditional mail client to pull your Gmail
7. Check your Gmail on your iPhone (?)
8. Create a Google Doc (Google Docs is not down)
9. Update the wiki
10. Change your avatar
11. Read the first half-sentence of your emails in Google Notifier

And… we’re back up. In Gmail we trust.

“The entire Google cloud is gonna go down someday, and we’ll all be, like, naked feeling.” - Josh

    1. Thanks for this.

    2. Luckily I don’t use Google for my email but if Google as a whole ever went down it would be pretty interesting to see what would happen.

    3. Have you considered installing the db-cache plugin ? It will help your site load faster.
