DevHub
For those of you familiar with parking your domains, you know how it feels to get your piddly little check at the end of the month. Even with an extensive domain portfolio, if you don’t have the time to develop the sites, you’re not likely to be bringing in more than a couple of sheckles each month. Pretty disheartening.
Needless to say, there has to be a better solution to all this, which is why I’m excited about venturing into DevHub, a new solution for easy website building and no-hassle hosting. The concept they have put together is simple: drag-and-drop website creation that uses keywords that you select to place affiliate products on your page. It strikes a happy medium between the simplicity of parking your page and the complexity of building out an entire website.
After spending some good time with the program, I have to say that DevHub has the shortest learning curve of any Content Management System (CMS) I’ve used. What’s more, its ability to deal with complexity isn’t sacrificed in the name of its usability, which can often be the case. In fact, I think that a savvy developer could essentially run an entire magazine using the framework.
So, DevHub has a vast array of features despite it’s incredible newness. What are the caveats? For one, it’s not nearly as customizable as products like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla. DevHub is not a plugin-based CMS, and your ability to customize CSS is a bit wonky (though it can be done).
But if you are an amateur domainer, or even if you are a developer and want to try a new platform that you can hand off to clients, try DevHub out. Although we have yet to see what our first few paychecks look like (the ultimate test), I’m loving it so far.
If you try it and find yourself opining about DevHub, come back, leave a comment. I’d love to hear what your thoughts are.
