Blogging for a Better World
Blog + Philanthropy = Bloganthropy
Can bloggers help build a better world? That is the question the founders of Bloganthropy have asked and answered with a resounding, “Yes!” Bloganthropy.org combines the power of social media with the resources of corporate giving. Its goal is to make it easier for companies and bloggers to connect through charity and corporate giving.
More Than a Just a Free Sample
After BlogHer 2009, people took to Twitter and their blogs to discuss proposed FTC regulations and the abuse of access to free products (aka SWAG). Debbie Bookstaber and Candace Lindemann, founders of Mamanista.com, were dismayed by the negative perception so many had of bloggers. Bookstaber explained, “Since Mamanista’s creation, we have donated thousands of dollars as well as products to charity. We did not recognize this caricature of materialistic bloggers. This was not the blogging community we know and love.” Lindemann adds, “Bloggers are excited to get involved with genuine campaigns that allow them to use their talents and influence to make a difference.” Together, Bookstaber says, they created Bloganthropy to help “utilize our social media connections and expertise with the appropriate resources in the business world.”

Charity Efforts On the Horizon
The JAR Group is joining forces with our neighbors at The Brooklyn Community Foundation to give formerly homeless kids a “welcome basket” of books and toys as they move into permanent housing. The JAR Group will contribute organic, earth-friendly toys from RosieHippo.com in addition to volunteering their time to assemble the baskets and leveraging their relationships with other DUMBO tech companies to help the foundation solicit additional donations.
